Who We Are

Betty

I was born in China, spent my early childhood in Japan, grew up in Vancouver and studied and worked in Toronto. I think of myself as nomad. I’ve moved around so much that packing is like second nature. I guess that’s why travelling feels so natural to me. If I’d have to pick a place that feels most like home, it would have to be Vancouver. Every time I see those snow peaked Coastal Mountains, my heart skips a beat.

After graduating, I spent a few years working office jobs in Toronto. I didn’t really like that. I didn’t know exactly what I want to do (I still don’t) but I didn’t want to go down the career path I was heading. So I packed up and went travelling. Ballsy move right? Now that my bank account is nearly empty, I’m thinking maybe it was too ballsy.  But hey! At least I’m not freezing my ass off in Toronto.

Other than travel, I love reading, drawing, art, films and of course the internet. I also enjoy being outdoors hiking, camping, canoeing, and rock-climbing. The bane of my existence are mosquitos, squirrels, and skim milk powder.

Dmitri

Dmitri is my boyfriend and travel companion. He is a talented musician, designer, and photographer. He and I are really similar in a lot of ways. For one thing we are both children of immigrant families (Dmitri is Russian Canadian) and we have brothers of the same age. We are both pretty cynical and we like to make fun of the same things. We both felt like leaving Toronto and travelling was the right move for us. I noticed how we are becoming more similar because we spend an unhealthy amount of time together on this trip. But then Dmitri is ambitious, creative, easy going, extremely supportive, and has a cute butt. Why wouldn’t I want to spend all my time with him?

Dmitri is crazy about his art website, his business ventures and rock climbing. He can also play electric guitar. Some day he’s going to make tons of money and be incredibly famous. We like to talk about what we are going to do with said money while sipping dollar coffee at Asian 7/11. I vote for a huge estate with horses. Dmitri wants to buy a tank in case of the zombie apocalypse. I’m like, “Be practical Dmitri. Do you know how much paper work it would take to get a tank?”

  1. Hey, Betty! This is wonderful story and very good and interesting Web site! You should think about artistic career web design or mass media! This is for you and do not spend time for ruefully and boring office menager job any more! And in Toronto right now very very cold, this is right…
    Send my hello to Dmitri.
    Regards,
    Olga.
